A fundraiser for Dennis “Porkchop” Hamm, who was recently injured in a motorcycle wreck, raised more than $20,000 at Diamond Don’s RV Park on Saturday. Don Rainey, who owns the park, said the event was “over the top.”
“All of his friends showed up,” he added. “It was a great gathering of friends, family and kids. Every time I looked over at the bounce house, there were kids in there having fun.”
The benefit also featured performances from SnakeBone and Richard S., alone with food, drinks, an auction and hourly door prizes.
Hamm, a lifelong Jefferson resident, has worked as a firefighter and first responder for the Smithland Fire Department.
He was seriously injured in the motorcycle crash and is presently being treated at the LSU Hospital in Shreveport. The benefit was organized to help defray his medical costs.
Asked about Hamm’s condition, Rainey said he hears “a little bit from everybody, sometimes good and sometimes bad. But any time you’re dealing with a head injury, it can go either way.”
