Betty V. Washington Hargus age 90, of Winnsboro, Texas passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 in Quitman, Texas. She was born in Waxahachie, Texas on December 28, 1926 to William and Jean (Daniels) Washington. On June 24, 1944, Betty married the love of her life, Joe Lee Hargus in Waxahachie, Texas.
Betty enjoyed camping and fishing, loved to dance, and reading was a passion. She served as Librarian at the Jefferson Carnegie Library in Jefferson, Texas. Betty worked very hard on the farm and tended to the cattle. She was very active at her church, Axe United Methodist Church in Garland, Texas and Mims United Methodist Church in Avinger, Texas.
Betty is survived by her son, Jame Hargus and his wife Kristy; grandchildren, Jody Hargus and wife Katie, Jena Rollins and husband Patrick, and great grandchild, Karlee Jo Rollins. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, William and Jean (Daniels) Washington; husband, Joe Lee Hargus; sister, Connie Lott; and daughter, Tony Gayle Hargus.
The family will receive friends from 6PM – 8PM, Thursday, September 14, 2017. Graveside services will be held at Elm Branch Cemetery in Bardwell, Texas on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 2PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s name to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
