While Antwain Jimmerson’s gridiron Bulldogs grab the bulk of the spotlight during fall sports, you can bet that a group of young Lady Bulldogs are working in the gym just as hard as their football counterparts. Volleyball? You betcha, and it’s just the start of a full slate of girls’ athletics on the Middle School and High School campuses.
Two of the new members of the JHS coaching staff are volleyball lifers – head coach Marshall Earnhart (“Coach E” if you want to sound like you keep up) and Brandon Allee. Between the two, there’s 43 years of volleyball coaching and for Jefferson, hopes that their experience translates into more than just a handful of victories.
The Lady Bulldogs enter District 16-3A competition on Friday with three players making some noise – Deivya Hodge leads the team in both kills (61) and digs (79) while Mackenzie Jordan is first with 155 assists and second in aces with 15, just one behind team leader Ky’Marria Warren.
Jefferson’s final pre-district foray was Tuesday night against Linden-Kildare and went the Lady Tigers way in four games. But Jefferson took the first match of the set 25-23 and was just edged 25-22
and 27-25 in the third and fourth matches. The competitive drive is there for Earnhart and Allee to use to their advantage as they work on the basics and try to get the Lady Dawgs on a competitive level with their opponents.
