Memorial services for Charles Glen Derrick, age 84, of Kilgore will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Hall Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Rusk officiating.
Mr. Derrick was born in Avinger, Texas on June 29, 1933 to Johnnie Oscar Derrick and Ivy Hulene
Purdy Derrick and passed away on July 2, 2017 in Kilgore, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his three brothers, Ralph, Jimmy, and Donald.
Charles, who many knew him by the name of Glen, spent his youth being raised with his three brothers in Jefferson, Texas. The early part of his adulthood was spent proudly serving in the United States Army. Following his time of service, Charles pursued a career with an electric company, where he took part in establishing some of the first electric poles in various rural areas. Charles was known as a man of many trades, who could do anything from carpentry to machinery. Later in life, he was especially remembered for his love of caring for his grandchildren and rebuilding antique cars.
Mr. Derrick is survived by his children; Chuck Derrick, Jamie Latham, and Nancy Derrick of Naples, Texas, Glynnwood Derrick and Crystal Derrick, of Texarkana, Texas, and Kyletha Derrick of Kilgore, Texas. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
