From my study by the lake
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double- minded.” (James 4:8, NRSV)
What an incredible morning from my study by the lake to read “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” Other than maybe in a quiet mountain home looking over vast valleys and rivers is this verse no truer than in a home by a lake. The quiet of this morning after days of wind and rain is nothing other than the stillness of being in God’s Presence. The lake is still and it seems all creation is too.
Even my kitty sits still on the rug close to me as I relish the call of drawing near to God, and greater still that He draws near to me. How precious, how lifegiving, how incredible that in choosing to cleanse my hands and heart through repentance and His forgiveness, I am blessed to draw near to God as He draws near to me.
In the same manner as the woman who touched His garments, I can touch His Presence in the stillness of drawing near to Him. Then peace and joy leave me breathless in knowing in His Presence is as living in a gigantic cocoon wrapped in His love and provision free from all fear.
