The Fab FourIn June of 1948 the Ed Sullivan Show began airing on CBS television stations on Sunday evenings. That program was a variety show that is highly respected by those in the industry. It was ranked #15 of the 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time by TV Guide. It is one of the few entertainment shows to have run in the same weekly time slot on the same network for more than two decades. Virtually every type of entertainment appeared on the show during its 24 seasons on air.
In March of 1957 John, who was then sixteen years old, and several friends formed a musical group called the Blackjacks. The group soon changed their name to the Quarrymen after discovering another group was already utilizing that name. Paul joined the group in July when he was fifteen years old. In March of 1958 George joined the group. He was just fourteen years old.

 

In January of 1960 the group took on the name the Beatles as a tribute to Buddy Holly and the Crickets. In May of that year they adopted the name Silver Beatles, and in mid-August they dropped the color adjective, becoming simply the Beatles. At this point, Richard who was then twenty years old was a member of a competing group in Liverpool.

 

In August of 1962 Richard joined the group, and the following year the group became affectionately known.,..
