Tisha Thompson, who is the head volleyball and softball coach for the Lady Mustangs of Hughes Springs, has led her team this year to the UIL State Softball 3A Playoffs in Austin. Their first game will be Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m.
Ms. Thompson, a 2003 graduate of Jefferson High School and played multiple sports at JJHS and JHS over the years. “I never played ball until I was 8 years old, playing two years of slowpitch softball. I then played three years of baseball (with the Dixie League), and one year of fastpitch softball before entering the High School program. Playing all four years at Jefferson High School, I went on to Southern Arkansas State University after graduation, playing all four years,” recounted Tisha.
She went on to say,” I think Coach Jon Purifoy gave me my greatest influence on wanting to become a coach; but I can’t say it was just one coach. It was the many coaches that I’ve had throughout my career,” when asked who had been her greatest influence in making the choice to coach.
Tisha was hired right out of college to coach at Hughes Springs, and has been there since 2008.
