Jefferson’s Opera House Theatre Players presented a condensed version of “The Marvelous Wonderettes ‘58” for a group of travelers from all over the United States recently when they made a return visit to the city.
The group, who travels in motor homes and travel trailers, came through the city last April and attended one of the Players most successful plays, “Exit Laughing”. They enjoyed it so much that they asked to come back this year for a private showing, however, the theatre could only accommodate them with a portion of the successful musical that was produced last in December.
Director Marcia Thomas arranged to have The Wonderettes get back together for a Monday afternoon show at The Bakery following the meal that was served to the visitors who were traveling in Texas, led by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kindle of Houston. The original cast included Penny Mann, Hannah Howard, Jennifer Dean, and Stacy Davis (who was replaced for the visitor performance by Tara Craver). The interactive presentation was a hit with the visitors all of whom said they had never been to Jefferson before, but would definitely be coming back.
The Players plan to present Act 2 of “The Marvelous Wonderettes ‘68” on June 30 – July 3 at the Jefferson Playhouse. Auditions to fill a vacancy role will be held the last week in April. Any female who sings and acts and is interested should call 903-665-2310 for more information.
