At its meeting on April 11, the Jefferson ISD’s Board of Trustees approved the hiring of two coaches for several girls’ teams.
Brandon Allee, who previously coached in New Diana, will be an assistant coach for girls’ volleyball, basketball and softball, said Girls Athletic Director Mark Allen.
Allee thanked the board for the opportunity to work in Jefferson.
“I like the kind of family atmosphere you have, and the fact that you put the kids first,” he said.
The other new coach, Marshall Earnhart, hails from North Zulch. He’ll work as the high-school head volleyball coach and head girls’ track coach, while also serving as a junior-high coordinator.
“As you did your homework on me,” Earnhart said, “I did my homework on you guys, too. Where I came from, it didn’t seem like we were about the kids. But the first thing I heard from people is that Jefferson is all about the kids, and everything else is after that. I’m looking forward to this. If given the opportunity, I’ll go above and beyond.”
Also on the agenda: the approval of funds for the Jefferson High School color guard to attend band camp this summer. Band director Matthew Foster said the group attended the camp in Natchitoches, La., last year, and it was well worth the cost of $280 per person.
“They learned everything at camp and will take advanced classes this year,” he said. “It was great. The kids learned a ton and had a blast.”
The board unanimously approved the funds for the camp, while also passing a budget amendment allowing the high-school girls’ golf team to go to regionals.
“They think $1,300 will cover it, but we’ll put $1,500 in there,” said Superintendent Rob Barnwell.
