From Staff Reports
The newly-created “Spotlight Award” was recently presented to Jefferson’s Opera House Theatre Players director Marcia Thomas and her late mother, Dorothy Craver, who was a former long-term president of the group.
The award was given at the annual Texas Non-Profit Theatres, Inc. (TNT) conference and Texas American Association of Community Theatres Fest, which took place on March 18 in Lewisville.
Retiring TNT executive director Linda Lee said the committee felt it fitting that the mother/daughter team be recognized together, given their shared commitment to supporting theatre in the area.
“I was so delighted to receive the award, mostly on my mother’s behalf, since she was the one who encouraged us and maintained that ‘show must go on’ attitude,” Thomas says. “It has been tricky to keep it going, but we somehow do, mostly through the generosity of the Schluter Foundation and the Marshall Regional Arts Council.”
