Obituary | “Lankin” Elvin Humphrey

Humphrey“Lankin” Elvin Humphrey went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, March 15, 2017, in a Texarkana hospital.

Lankey was born March 23, 1927, in Linden, Texas, to Delbert and Mae Humphrey. Lankey finished the ninth grade and started working full-time. He enlisted in the US Army, serving in WWII. After the war, he continued to serve as an MP and was stationed in Japan for some time. He came home and met Willie Pearl Gilbert. They were married in 1949. They had four children; James, Sissy (Glenda), Danny, and Paul. Lankey was a Teamster until he retired. He liked the outdoors; fishing, hunting, and camping. He was the neighborhood dad. He was preceded in death by parents, three brothers, three sisters, and his wife Willie Pearl Humphrey.

He is survived by wife, Shirley Reece Humphrey of Atlanta, Texas; his children, James Humphrey of Forney, Texas; Sissy (Glenda) Winter and husband William of Forney, Texas, Danny Humphrey and wife Shirley of Rockwall, Texas, Paul Humphrey and wife Christi of Forney, Texas; eight grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Services were held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Hanner Funeral Chapel.

Visitation was on Sunday, March 19, 2017, from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at Hanner Funeral Home prior to the service. Interment took place at Mims Chapel Cemetery, FM 729 Avinger, Texas
