Historian to share stories of Caddo Lake at meeting

The Caddo Lake Historical Research Committee will meet on March 18 at the Museum of Measurement and Time, located at 301 N. Polk St. in Jefferson. The meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The guest speaker will be Mary Humphrey, who moved to Jefferson in 1965. She married Billy Joe Humphrey and they had five children. Her husband’s family has lived in Jefferson since before the Civil War, and Mary Humphrey is now considered one of Jefferson’s most knowledgeable historians.

For more than 20 years, Mary has worked with Johnny Nance, owner of Turning Basin Tours, as a pilot and tour guide. She also serves on the Marion County Historic Commission.

Her father made his living hunting, trapping and fishing, and she says the river is her life.

The public is invited to attend to learn of her experiences on the river and in Marion County. For more information, please call 903-665-8444.
