Their second straight playoff season is in the books. Three seniors – Jayda McCoy, Ja’Lisa Mitchell and Ni’Linda Johnson – played their final basketball games in a Lady Bulldog uniform. Now, Mark Allen’s squad can look back on a secondstraight 20-victory season and see what honors come their way.
Apparently there’s going to be a few.
McCoy was named Co-Offensive Most Valuable Player of District 16-3A and Jamya Smith was tapped as 16-3A’s Defensive MVP, headlining a list of all-district honors earned by Allen’s group. Nine different players were recognized for their efforts by the District’s eight head coaches.
First Team honors went to McCoy and Smith as well as teammates Mitchell and sophomore post Elaina Langbartels, making Jefferson one of only two teams in the district with as many as four on top honors’ unit.
Langbartels proved to be as strong in the classroom as underneath the basket, earning academic All-District recognition as well.
Johnson was joined on the District’s 2nd Team by juniors Deivya Hodge and Ja’Kayla Jones while sophomore Hannah Welch and junior Tierra Hines were recognized by inclusion on the Honorable Mention team.
