Commissioners to seek camera grant

Acting on a request by Sheriff David McKnight, Marion County commissioners at their meeting Monday voted to request a grant to replace car cameras for the MCSO.

Present cameras in the department’s vehicles are six years old, according to McKnight.

The new cameras will also offer technological advantages.

“You can pull into the Sheriff’s Department and download the camera from the car,” McKnight told the court.

The 100 percent grant will be from the Criminal Justice Division of the Texas Attorney General’s office, if approved.

The court also received routine asset forfeiture reports and racial profiling reports from the Pct. 1 Constable’s Office.

Commissioners also took official notice of Glen Smith’s certificate of training.
