SCAT, CATS! Bulldogs Rip Harleton 63-30 in District Opener

Treston Dowell’s basketball team got just what the doctor ordered Tuesday night – a date with a district opponent.

 

Following weeks of playing 4A and 5A basketball squads, the Dawgs opened up 16-3A competition by rolling their nearest rivals – Harleton – by a 63-30 count.

 

Dee Mitchell piled up 23 points and Cameron Hicks had a season’s-best effort with 16 more to help Jefferson run away early. The Dawgs were up 17-5 at the end of the first quarter and led 32-13 at the half. Jefferson hit the afterburners in the third quarter – compiling a 20-6 advantage over the eight minute stanza – then coasted in an 11-11 fourth for the big win.

 

Mitchell’s game included nine field goals and five-ofseven free throws while Hicks’ big night was built solely with eight buckets.

 

Taylor Smith chipped in with six points while Maurice Rudd and Kylan Thomas added five apiece.

 

Kepha Luster posted four points while Curtis Henry and Tanner Murphy added one bucket apiece to round out the Bulldogs’ scoring. Harleton’s Hyme Jimenez warmed up late to lead the Wildcat effort with nine points while Cade Dickerson was right behind him with eight more.

 

PLEASANT GROVE TOURNEY RESULTS TEXARKANA,

Texas – Jefferson dropped the first three games of the Pleasant Grove tournament last weekend, falling to the tourney host Hawks and then to Texas High and New Boston before rallying to claim their final two games, beating Henderson 56-54 in overtime and avenging their earlier loss to New Boston by a 69-46 count.
