The Jefferson Lady Bulldogs held Harleton to single-digit scoring in each of the first three quarters on Tuesday night and cruised to a 50-29 victory. Coupled with last Friday’s 58-27 victory at Beckville, Mark Allen’s squad heads into the Christmas break with a 13-6 record that includes a spotless 3-0 mark in District 16-3A competition.
Jefferson crept out to an 8-1 first quarter lead and didn’t surrender a field goal until midway through the second stanza in which the Lady Dawgs piled up a 22-15 halftime edge. A trio of three-pointers in the third helped Jefferson compile a 4112 advantage before Harleton found the bucket in the fourth for 17 points, closing the final gap to a 21-point Jefferson win.
All 10 Lady Bulldogs made the scoring column this night with Jayda McCoy leading the way. The junior buried three three-pointers and led Jefferson with 16 points, piling up five field goals overall and hitting three of five foul shots.
Elaina Langbartels hit a couple of jumpers and nailed three of four free throws to finish with seven points while Jamya Smith had a bucket with four free throws to finish with six.
Harleton’s Harmony Watson led the Lady Cats in scoring with seven while Tyler Mobley finished right behind her with six more. Only one other player had more than one basket in Harleton’s first district loss of the season.
