Obituary | Mary Margaret Edgeman Hileman

hilemanMary Margaret Edgeman Hileman was born December
20, 1942 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to James Burla Edgeman and Frances Ione Wilson Edgeman, and passed away at her home in the company of her loving family December 4, 2016. She lived in Wilson, Oklahoma and then Oscar, Oklahoma with her parents and brother James until the family moved to McLeod, Texas when Mary was in fifth grade. She attended school where she was a cheerleader and basketball standout and graduated in 1960. When Mary was a senior in high school, her sister Shelly was born in Atlanta, TX. Upon graduation, Mary attended East Texas State University and worked for the state highway department in Atlanta, Texas. Mary married the love of her life Tony Hileman in Queen City, Texas in March of 1963. The couple lived in Houston while Tony attended law school and worked as a bookkeeper for an oil company. Mary had two children, Jay and Midge, while they were living in Houston. The family moved to Jefferson, Texas in March of 1967. Tony was elected County Attorney for Marion County in 1968 and served as County and District Attorney through 1992. Mary worked as a secretary and legal assistant in the law office for more than 25 years. Mary’s youngest child, Holly, was born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1973. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson for many years. Later she attended the Christ Episcopal Church in Jefferson. She was a member of the Jessie Allen Wise Garden Club for almost fifty years and served multiple terms as president of the club. She actively participated in Pilgrimage and Mardi Gras and many other charitable organizations throughout her lifetime. Mary had numerous friends and was a devoted friend to so many.  Mostly, Mary loved her family and she loved Jefferson, TX. and Marion County. Mary was a wonderful cook and she enjoyed cooking and being the hostess for family gatherings.

 

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Tony Hileman and her parents J.B. and Ione Edgeman. Mary is survived by her son Jay and his wife Heidi Hileman of Montgomery, Texas; daughter Midge and her husband Ronnie Conley of Texarkana, Texas; daughter Holly Hileman of McKinney, Texas; and grandchildren Zachary Conley and John and Grace Hileman. She is also survived by her brother James Edgeman and his wife Merry of The Woodlands, Texas; her sister Shelly Windham and her husband Mike of Ellisville, Mississippi; sister in laws; Mary Lillian Hileman Welch and her husband George Welch, Jr. of Bloomburg, TX; Rose Hileman Holder of Pittsburg, TX; Sally Hileman Stoddard and her husband Mark Stoddard of Allen, TX. and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Services will be held in the Capt. Wm. Perry Chapel of Haggard Funeral Home in Jefferson, TX, December 8th, at 3 pm with interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Jefferson, TX. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Wednesday December 7, 2016 at the funeral home.

 

Pallbearers: Alex Edgeman, Jason Smoak, Brad Holder, Will Welch, Jacob Slack and Adam Slack. Honorary pallbearers: Milton Jones, James Edgeman, Jay Patrick, Luke Windham, Zack Conley and Ronnie Conley.

 

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to the Jessie Allen Wise Garden Club, the preservation of William Perry Park, 211 W. Austin St. Jefferson, TX. 75657 and the Marion County Humane Society, c/o Dixie Humane Society, P.O. Box 505 Jefferson, TX. 75657.
