wilcoxFuneral services for Mrs. Janis Maxwell Wilcox, 73, of Carthage, Texas are 11:00 A.M. Thursday December 8, 2016 at New Prospect Baptist Church in Jefferson with Bro. Mark Markle officiating. Interment will follow at Prospect Cemetery under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home of Jefferson. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the church 10-11 A.M. Thursday prior to the service.

Janis Maxwell Wilcox was born July 28, 1943 and departed from this life December 4, 2016. She is survived by her husband, Mark Wilcox of Carthage, TX; four nieces, Darlene Wray, Nancy Derryberry and O’Nita Duncan of Jefferson, Edith Nottingham of Gillam, LA. and one nephew Garland Baugh of Pittsburg, TX. Janis also considered the staff and residents of Panola Nursing Home and Rehab. Center in Carthage, TX.as friends and part of her family.

Janis lived most of her adult life in various nursing homes in East Texas. She met her husband, Mark in the MHMR facility in Marshall and they were married shortly after meeting. She was an avid reader of westerns (Louis Lamour) and loved to go bowling
in her earlier years, but her great passion was Bingo.

Janis loved to sing, especially church hymns and was many times one of the loudest in the congregation at Moore’s Chapel or New Prospect. In her last days she mentioned wanting to see her mother again and we feel she is with her now singing as loud as ever.

The family wished to express thanks to the staff of Panola Nursing for lovingly caring for her throughout the last several years.
