Tanner Murphy has been nominated for the Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week award, presented by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football and Wells Fargo in conjunction with the Advocare V100 Texas Bowl.
Tanner is one of ten nominees for the weekly statewide award, which is 100% decided by fan voting. The poll, located at www.texasfootball.com, closes Friday at noon. Make sure you go the website and vote. The recipe for success, we’ve found, is schools that utilize social media to spread the word to their students, faculty, staff, coaches, spirit organizations, parents and anyone that supports their team and community.
Additionally, they’ve set up a Facebook page and Twitter feed that should help you spread the word virally through the community.
Tanner also made headlines this week with being honored as the Jefferson senior linebacker receiving the ETSN.fm + Dairy Queen Defensive Player of the Week.
Murphy did a fabulous job Thursday night with 33 takedowns to help the Bulldogs avoid a four-seed versus one-seed upset in the opening round of the postseason. He made 17 of his 33 tackles in open field.
Jefferson upset a dominant White Oak team earlier this season for the District 8-3A Division I crown, but Winnsboro apparently didn’t get the memo as the fourth and final team to reach the playoffs out of District 7-3A Division I.
