The Jefferson Lady Bulldogs enjoyed their home court to the fullest on Tuesday evening, rallying from a first-game loss to knock out Waskom, three games to one. The post-match celebration marked Jefferson’s first District 16-3A victory of the year.
Jayda McCoy, KyMarria Perry and Kayla Wood led the way for Jefferson, which fell 19-25 in the first match before claiming the next three by 25-16, 25-20 and 25-23 scores. The nail-biting manner of the decisive match made the victory all the sweeter for the girls, their coaches and the fans on hand at Bulldog Gym.
McCoy’s effort produced nine service aces, five kills and three digs while Perry’s eight kills led the team. Perry added an ace and three digs to round out her night.
Wood flew around the court all evening and dished out a whopping 20 assists to go along with four aces and three digs.
Jamya Smith added four digs, three kills and one ace while Keondra Williams had a pair of digs and a kill of her own. Tierra Hines also chipped in with a dig and a kill to round out the Lady Dawgs’ efforts.
Last Friday, the home court advantage wasn’t quite enough to carry Jefferson as the Lady Bulldogs fell in three games (20-25, 18-25 and 19-25) to visiting Ore City.
