Annual Fall Fundraiser for Mims VFD set for Oct. 15

The Mims Volunteer Fire Department Fall Fundraiser is set for Saturday, October 15, 2016, starting at 8 a.m. This is one of the main fundraising events for the Mims VFD which provides most of the emergency fire and ambulance coverage to the west end of Marion County.

There will be games and activities for the kids. A silent auction for items donated by private citizens and local businesses will be held during the fundraiser. This year a new event has been added to list of activities. A “Poker Run” has been added to the slate of activities, and will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning. Delicious food, prepared by the Mims Ladies Auxiliary and other volunteers from the community, will be served beginning at noon for a $10 donation. The Ladies Auxiliary will also hold a bake sale offering a wide variety of deliciously tempting items.

Each year there is a Grand Prize Raffle, which includes the traditional trailer, accompanied by a beautiful set of patio furniture. Participants will receive a ticket for each $5 donation. A drawing will be held, and the items will be awarded to the lucky person who is holding the winning ticket.

Mims VFD is manned by community volunteer who are trained and perform their services as firefighters, EMTs, and ambulance service, operate on a volunteer basis. No one is paid for the services they perform, and monies that they raise is used to replace and restore older equipment and to purchase new equipment which enhances the performance and safety of the individuals who perform those services. The funds are also used for training for the individuals who are donating their time and expertise to the community on a regular and timely basis.

All proceeds of the day go to the Mims Volunteer Fire Department, enabling them to continue to serve the Mims Chapel area and the surrounding communities. They also serve as back-up to Champion for the rest of Marion County in the event that there is more assistance needed than Champion can supply in an emergency situation.

Come on out to the Johnson Creek Outdoor Pavilion. It is located on the North Shore of Lake O’ The Pines just off Highway 729 at Johnson Creek. Enjoy the festivities.
