After no one took advantage of the opportunity to speak at last week’s public hearing, Jefferson ISD trustees routinely adopted the 2016-17 budget and companion tax rate.
JP Abernathy made a motion to approve the 2016-17 budget as presented. Motion was duly seconded by Dr. Kent Thigpen. Motion carried, 5-0.
Motion by Milton Holland, duly seconded by Bobby Langbartels, to approve a Maintenance & Operations (M&O) tax rate of 1.04 and an Interest & Sinking (I&S) tax rate of .075715 for was approved 5-0.
The consent agenda which included past meeting minutes and end-of-year budget amendments was also approved.
A proposal to approve an agreement with Collect-Ed LLC Erate Services for the funding year 2017-18 carried, 5-0.
Trustees also approved the addition of a Head Start position at the Primary Campus due to an increase in enrollment this year.
The Board convened into executive session at 6:29 p.m. in order to discuss personnel. The Board re-convened into open session at 7:10 p.m. to conduct regular business.
Superintendent Rob Barnwell recommended the Board approve the employment of LaToya Smith as an elementary teacher and Summer Cooner for Head Start through the offer
of probationary (10 month) contracts for the 2016-17 school year. The board approved.
